Choirs

St. Mary’s enjoys a rich heritage and tradition of music ministry.

Jimrae Lenser, our Organist and Director of Music, has been with us since November 2011. He works closely with the Rector and oversees all music at St. Mary’s.

St. Mary’s is blessed to have a 1973 Austin organ of almost 2000 pipes to lead us in music. We also have a Steinway grand piano and a six bell English Carillon to supplement our music ministry. In addition, we are often blessed with the addition of individual instrumentalists who join us on Sunday mornings or at special events.

St. Mary’s has three choirs to lead us in music.

The Adult Choir: The Adult Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings at 8:30 a.m. and sings at the 10:00 a.m. service September through June. In the summer months, individuals and small groups lead the worship music. Four section leaders ground the choir in singing parts with seven to eight volunteers regularly joining the choir.

The Adult Choir also sings at special services during the year such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and our ecumenical Lenten service. Since 2008, The Adult Choir has also participated in the area wide 12th Night Benefit Concert for EpiscoBuild/Habitat for Humanity.

When requested, members of The Adult Choir also sing at funerals/memorial services and weddings.

The Adult Choir is open to any adult who wishes to sing.

The Family Choir: Begun in 2009, The Family Choir sings 3 to 4 times a year during the school year. Rehearsals begin at 9:00 a.m. with donuts, coffee and juice and then followed by practicing the music for the 10:00 a.m. service. The Family Choir is open to one and all, young and older, musical or not…all you need is to bring the desire to sing.

Hymns are chosen with a refrain so that even the youngest can join in. Words and music are made available prior to the Sunday singing so that people may practice at home. You may bring a relative, a neighbor, a friend to sing with you in Family Choir.

St. Mary’s Children’s Choir: Begun in 2013, this fledging group rehearses on Sunday morning during coffee hour. The Director is parish volunteer Sandy McGrady. The children sing 3 to 4 times a year at the end of the 10:00 a.m. service.
